Duane “Bake” Baker, 86, rural Oblong, Illinois passed away at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois.
Born in Grandville Twp. Jasper County, Illinois on December 19, 1926, he was the son of Grover Cleveland “Cleve” Baker and Mable Irene (Tumelson) Baker. He was a graduate of Oblong High School ~ Class 0f 1944. He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer in Crawford and Jasper Counties. He was affiliated with the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, Illinois. He was a member of the Robinson Elk’s Lodge #1188; member and former Director of the Crawford County Farm Bureau; served on the Oblong Grade School Board for several years; one of the first people to do tractor pulling at the Crawford County Fair.
On April 1, 1950, Duane married Mary Imogene “Jeanie” Walling, who survives. They were married for 62 years. Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry & Cindy Baker and Randy Baker; a nephew, Dale Fielder and one niece, Darlene Ferguson.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred Fielder and Christine Dorrough.
